Lucite’s Beaumont Plant to Host Team from China10 Jul 2004Nederland ,TXLucite International’s methyl methacrylate (MMA) manufacturing facility in Beaumont will play host to a team of 10 new Lucite employees from Shanghai, China for two weeks, beginning July 17. The 10 Chinese nationals are all employees of Lucite’s new MMA plant currently under construction in Caojing, China. The Caojing facility is scheduled to begin commercial production in mid-2005.Lucite International is the world’s largest producer of methacrylates with a portfolio that includes Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) and a range of specialty monomers, which are key components in resins, surface coatings, paints, composites and specialty polymers. The portfolio also includes brands such as ‘LUCITE®’, ‘ELVACITE®, and ‘PERSPEX®’. The team is traveling to Beaumont to undergo orientation, operational and safety training at the Beaumont MMA plant. The group is made up of engineers, operations personnel, production managers, supervisors, and safety and quality control personnel. The visitors will be receiving intensive training in such areas as safety procedures, risk assessment, manufacturing operations, emergency planning and procedures, work flow and control. “What they learn in Beaumont at this world class operation, will be taken back to be put into practice at the new China MMA facility which was patterned directly after the Beaumont facility”, said Keith Rogers, Director of Manufacturing for Monomer and Cast Sheet. For most of the China team, it’s their first trip to the United States. During their visit here, the group will have an opportunity to tour NASA, and attend an Astros baseball game. Prior to their departure for China on July 31, the group will be treated to a Texas-style barbecue by their Beaumont hosts.
